When the Story You've Been Telling Yourself About Your Health is Incomplete

When the Story You've Been Telling Yourself About Your Health is Incomplete

A lab report just changed how I saw my own health. Depth matters. Context matters. I want to explore health with you as the full story of our lives, not just the current chapter.

I have been a chiropractor and functional nutrition practitioner for years. I think in systems. I track patterns. I ask the questions most providers don't have time to ask. I built an entire clinical model around one idea: the body is always communicating. We need to learn how to listen.

And then my own body handed me a result I wasn't prepared for.

Elevated mycotoxin markers (what makes mold toxic to humans and breaks us down from the inside out). Mold in my home had made its way into my biology, into my husband's biology, into our dog's immune system. A body-to-building match. Suddenly, home itself felt like a threat.

We live in it. We sleep in it. We have been breathing it.

This did not start with mold. It started with detox.

I wanted to understand why some detoxes made me feel sick and others didn't, what eating clean means in 2026 when most of our food comes from a grocery store, and what toxins were quietly accumulating in my system. I'd already brought an IonCleanse foot detox unit into my practice and wanted a real protocol behind it, not just a single tool. That search led me to a new supplement company and its practitioner detox conference, which planted the first seeds. I decided to test my own body for toxins as a baseline, and test my husband and our home while I was at it. What was in our systems?

Around the same time, I bought an air quality monitor for my office and started using it at home too. What I learned shocked me. Ventilation matters more than almost anyone in Portland talks about, and CO2 buildup had been quietly stressing my nervous system and clouding my thinking.

All of this happened while running a full practice, shifting my clinical model from insurance-based symptom management toward whole-person care, building new educational resources and website, and launching a new EHR (patient record system) and a new business communications platform, all within three months.

I am a clinician. I have the tools, the training, and the framework to navigate all of this technically. It is still a lot to sit with as a human.

I decided to blog about this because I know I'm not the only one navigating an onslaught of work and home stress, plus something more destabilizing: the realization that your body needs to feel safe to be healthy, and many of us don't feel safe at all anymore.

What The Deeper Layers Actually Is

This is what happens when a clinician stops separating her professional knowledge from her personal life, and uses AI to go deep on her own patterns, environment, family history, and more.

    Three things we'll explore together.

    • Your symptoms are data. So is your family history, what your parents and grandparents experienced that may be showing up in your biology right now. So is how you feel after eating, after sleeping, after walking into a certain building. What your smart watch and phone are tracking. We'll talk about how to read all of it, and how to know when it's time to run lab testing to confirm what your body is already telling you.
    • We'll go deep on environmental health, the kind that rarely makes it into a clinical conversation. How your home may be shaping what's happening in your body. How to find the right tools, inspectors, and testing, and how to actually understand what the results mean. What real remediation looks like, and how to weigh that decision when the financial hit is significant, as a whole-body, whole-life question. When that moment comes and the cost feels impossible while the need feels urgent, and every financial fear your parents and our culture handed you gets triggered at once, I built a reflection tool for exactly that. Try the Financial Body Reflection tool.
    • We'll talk about diet and hydration as inputs your body is constantly responding to, and about the supplements that will quietly support your health for years, why understanding what's in them changes how you choose what goes into your body. And through all of this, build the health literacy that keeps you from falling for good marketing without solid efficacy behind it.

This is an investigation built to tear down the walls we build in our minds to protect ourselves, so something sturdier can replace them: a foundation solid enough to rebuild your health on, in a culture that keeps selling quick fixes and outsourced wellbeing instead.

Who I Am and Why That Matters Here

I am Dr. Stefanie Krupp, DC MS, a chiropractor and functional nutrition practitioner based in Milwaukie, Oregon. I run Sustainable Alignment, an integrative practice built around something I call the Health Ownership Model (HOM).

I have degrees in chiropractic, applied clinical nutrition, mathematics, and sociolinguistics, and that combination taught me to pay attention to two different languages: the words you use to describe how your body feels, and the language of data, patterns, and nature itself. I also hold certifications in quality improvement and project management, spent years in public health positions at the state and local level, and completed training in AI architecture. This shapes how I think. I see patterns. I ask why before I ask what. I iterate to test, understand, and optimize, in quality improvement we call this the Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle. I build transferable systems and models that work for more than one person. Health ownership is what happens when we learn what it takes to move into our bodies, regulate our nervous system, and make decisions founded on our biology, because we've finally been given the owner's manual we assumed didn't exist.

Your body responds to inputs: structural, metabolic, immune, nervous system, environmental, emotional. Once you understand those inputs, you stop chasing symptoms and start working with a body that has been protecting, adapting, and communicating with you the whole time. That's when real health becomes possible.

Right now, I am applying all of that to my own life in real time.

This investigation is already changing how I practice. I'm taking more time to question everything, and building the systems to capture what I learn so we can all go deeper, faster.

I invite you to follow along.
